ACTIVITIES
Quilt Show
Each year in May. Members are strongly encouraged
to enter their quilted items which are proudly displayed with entries
from all over the country. SMQ members also volunteer their time to
help with all aspects of the quilt show.
Block Drawings
Several times during the year instructions for a quilt block are
found in the SMQ newsletter. Members who wish to participate can make
one or more blocks and bring them to the meeting. For each block made,
members put their names in a hat for the drawing. The winner gets all
of the blocks.
Challenge
Twice a year guild members are challenged to come up with their own interpretation of theme quilts. The themes differ each time and the only restriction is that it must be completed! The fall theme is sometimes judged for consideration in the Nashville AQS quilt guild competition. If you desire you quilt to be considered, AQS has size requirements as well as needs a quilting sleeve.
Ronald McDonald Quilts
Small,
lap-size quilts made by our members are donated to the Knoxville Ronald
McDonald House. The quilts are given to children undergoing treatment
for catastrophic illness at area hospitals, or their siblings. Kits
for the quilts are available. We also have several workshops yearly
to learn new techniques for making small, quick quilts.
