11 1/2" finished
Materials Needed:
1 9" square freezer paper
9 4" to 5" squares of cotton in Amish colors. Use Fossil Fern, marbled,
tone on tone or batiks in colors that read solid: Blues, greens, reds,
purples, teal, pinks, turquoise, lime, etc. No browns, yellows or orange.
2 7-1/2" squares tone on tone black fabric
Assemble the block:
Mark the 9" square of freezer paper in an uneven 9 patch grid. Number
the grid 1 though 9, as shown below. Make registration marks on the
lines between the patches.
Cut the paper apart on drawn lines. Press
shiny side of the paper on the back of each of the nine Amish colored
squares, then cut the shape, leaving at least 1/4" seam allowance around
each shape.
Sew #1 to #2 then both to #3, using the edge of your paper as your seam
line. Continue to sew the rows together until the patch is complete.
Remove the paper. (Save it, as it can be used again if you want to make
more blocks.)
Press and trim block to 8-1/2" square.
Cut each black 7-1/2" square in half diagonally. Sew the triangles to the sides of the 9 patch.
Press and tim the block to a 12" square.
Sign the back of your block.
