
10" Finished Block
Materials Needed:
1 fat quarter white ground with red print
1 fat eighth red ground with white print
12 assorted scraps of white tone on tone, ecru, cream tone on tone and/or
light tan, at least 4" square
From the assorted 4" squares, cut:
8 squares, each 3"x3" for block
4 squares, each 3-3/8" x 3-3/8"; cut in half diagonally to make 8 half square
triangles
From white ground with red print, cut 8 squares, each 2-1/8" x 2-1/8"; cut in half diagonally to make 16 half square triangles.
From red ground with white print, cut 8 squares, each 1-3/4" x 1-3/4"
Assemble the block:
1. Stitch white ground with red print 2-1/8" half square triangles to the top and one side of the red ground with white print 1-3/4" square as shown. Press seam allowances towards the triangles. Make 8.
2. Stitch an off-white, cream or ecru 3-3/8" half square triangle to the pieced unit from step 1. Press the seam allowance toward the light triangle.
3. To make each quarter of the block, stitch an off-white, cream or ecru 3" square to 2 of the pieced units as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the light squares. Stitch the units together as shown. Press the seam allowance in one direction. Make 4.
4. Arrange the 4 pieced units together into 2 rows of 2 units each, rotating the units as shown. Stitch units into rows. Press the seam allowances in opposite directions. Stitch the rows together, being careful to match center points. Stitch, then press the seam allowances in one direction to make 1 block.
