8-1/2"
finished block
Use mottled greens, blues, tans, maroons, gray greens in subtle patterns
(#1 fabric). Do not use solids. For background use pale "garden prints",
mottled cream/trans or pale greens (#2 fabrics).
Cut four 4" squares of #1 fabric
Cut one 2" square of #1 fabric
Cut eight 2" squares of #2 fabric (background)
Cut four 2"x4" rectangles of #2 fabric
On each 2" square, draw a diagonal line,
place square on a 4" square of #1 fabric. Sewing on the diagonal line,
sew a 2" square of #2 fabric on an opposite set of corners. Trim off
excess fabric, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance.
Make 4.
Sew a 2" x 4" strip between two 4" blocks with the background fabrics facing the rectangle as seen above. Make 2 sets.
Sew a 2" x 4" strip of #2 fabric to the 2" square of #1 fabric, sew the remaining 2"x4" strip of #2 fabric to the other side of the 2"x2" square.
Sew the completed strip to one set of 4" blocks, then sew to the remaining 4" blocks. Set as shown.
Sign and date your block in a seam allowance on the back of the block.
