My quilt "South of the Mason-Dixon Line" earned me the "Excellence in Hand Workmanship" award. I was surprised and happy for the award but even more surprised to learn that Linda Roy had made the rosette for the ribbon. I have been amazed and awed over the years with her beautiful work, and now to actually "own" a small piece of her work is so wonderful. Thank you for sponsoring this award.

Challenge Quilt for 2026
Patriotic: To be patriotic is to love, be devoted to, and feel a strong attachment to one's country, which often involves a sense of pride, loyalty, and a willingness to act in its best interest.
Since 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, our challenge is to create a patriotic quilt. Colors may reflect the flag (red, white and blue) or colors of the different military branches. The quilt could also be a landscape showing off the beauty of our country, or include patriotic symbols such as the bald eagle, Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty, or others. American history and patriotic music may be included. Please focus on those aspects of American life that unite us, rather than those which divide, such as politics.
Width and Length anywhere from 24” to 96”
Note: If you plan to make a Quilt of Valor, please follow their size recommendations. Quilts must be 55"-72" x 65"-90", machine or hand quilted, made with 100% cotton fabrics, and have a label stating, "Quilt of Valor".
These can be completed by more than one person, so quilting may be done by someone other than the person who constructed the top.
Challenge quilts are due by April 7, 2026. The guild members who are at that meeting will vote on their favorites. The three quilts with most votes will receive gift certificates to local quilt shops.

Cheer!Quilt Workdays are currently being scheduled, but these made-to-share charity quilts may be done at home. Members donate their time and talents creating kits or quilts for other members to complete. These quilts are designated for a variety of organizations or groups of individuals who will benefit from the compassionate and caring nature stitched into these quilts. You may choose your own pattern or one listed below.
Check the guild calendar for scheduled workdays and contact information.

Boutique Sit 'n Sews are held throughout the year to provide members an opportunity to work together for a common goal by creating handmade items to sell in a unique shopping setting at our annual quilt show. Some of these creations include quilts of varying sizes, pin cushions, potholders, bowl cozies, placemats, table runners, sewing machine covers, ornaments, and tote bags. The boutique sells gently used books, patterns, and quilting tools.
Items may be donated with 100% profit given to the guild. Consignment items are accepted with 25% of the final sale going to SMQ. Often, the seller will allow a higher percentage to be paid to the guild. Items made at home may be turned in at monthly guild meetings.
How can YOU help? Share your crafty ideas. Attend Sit 'n Sews. When you make gifts to share for birthdays and special occasions, make an extra to donate. Save and donate leftover trims, selvages, fabric scraps, and batting pieces. A few weeks before the quilt show, volunteer to help sort, price, and inventory items to sell. Volunteer to work in the Boutique during the show.
The website calendar lists the Sit 'n Sew dates and contact information.
